Included with the board are instructions for proper installation.
A) The MTH ProtoSounds1 Sound Systems This version of the QS-3000 board has the long pins. ProtoSounds1 replacement boards are designed to be plugged into any ProtoSounds1 bottom board often found factory installed in MTH & Weaver locos.
B) The QSI After Market Sound Boards & Systems This version of the QS-3000 board has the short pins. The QS-3000 After Market board can be plugged into any existing After Market system in place of the existing sound board.
QSI designed After Market Sound Systems are intended to be plugged into any of their ACRUs or DCRUs. The variety of reverse units took care of the different types of locos (steam or diesel, AC or DC motors) and created a common platform for the sound system kits to plug into.
The lone exception is the ACRU-E, which requires a $50 to $100 modification to work with a QSI After Market Sound System. Only for very tight places.
QSI's DCRUs were provided to MTH, Weaver, Lionel, Williams, 3-rd Rail, Right-of-Way, The Brass Club, and Duddy.
After Market sound systems were sold installed by MTH, Weaver, 3rd Rail, The Brass Club and Pecos River Brass. After Market sound system kits were sold by QSI, MTH and many dealers.
Detailed installation instructions for difficult to install locos are also available by request from STR. For complete operating instructions, go to http://www.QSIndustries.com Locate the QS-3000 user guide. Download it and print it out. The QS3000 manual has been updated will be available again shortly: $15 with a QS3000 order or repair, $22.50 when ordered separately. Separate orders are shipped via Media Mail.
A & B Power Supply updates: NOTE: All sound system power supplies must be updated, or the STR 1 year warranty for the QS3000 purchase is VOIDED. ProtoSounds1 bottom board update: $15 After Market middle board updates: $15 or $20, depending upon version. Enables Power Supply to operate correctly with saw tooth wave forms, (preventing burnout of the power supply's U12 when operated slowly) and disconnects the 6 micro Processor logic leads from the reverse unit's logic, (preventing the possibility of the micro Processor being destroyed by a failed, yet unused logic chip on the reverse unit.)
Two Coil Coupler Transformer Operation Like the QS2p, the QS-3000 has been designed to operate either 1 or 2 coil couplers from your transformer.
A) ProtoSounds1 details: The QS-3000 MTH Software sends the rear CC both upstairs and downstairs. The Front CC signal is sent only upstairs. Modification is availble for transformer operation of 2nd Coil coupler. See: Sound System & Ops Prices: Two Board Sound Syst, note 4.
B) After Market details: The QS-3000 After Market Software sends the front & rear CC upstairs and the rear only downstairs. Install a Single or Dual Coil coupler circuit board or kit, depending upon what is already in the loco. Kits include the coupler(s). See: Sound System & Ops Prices: After Market Sound Syst, notes 14-17.
Custom Installations Custom installations are available for Right-of-Way, Duddy, Weaver, Lionel & 3rd-Rail, and other fine locos that you wish to power with AC.

Some background: This offering came about as a result of three fortuitous events: 1) Two groups of boards were uncovered in a dark corner of a QSI closet. 2) A dealer in obsolete electronic Ice parts came up with the required micro Processors for the sound boards and with the required voltage converters for the After Market power supply both of which were needed to complete these recently discovered boards. 3) A supplier, Chicago Electric, came up with the closet thing yet to the original Ni-Cad battery, which is currently in production. It is the only battery considered suitable by STR for use with the After Market sound systems. See "Battery Considerations" page for discriminate usage.
